At a Wednesday breakfast in honor of Black History Month, Donald Trump made some truly bizarre comments about nineteenth century abolitionist Frederick Douglass: Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I noticed. The White House press corps, incredulous that the president would be oblivious to Douglass’s reputation, asked the president’s press secretary to clarify.
